Award-winning Author
"Couldn't put it down. I love the genuine, raw capturing
of the passion and struggles of these women.
Unfortunately, some of these struggles are still true
for women today." Dr. Kimberly Nearpass

When Skye was in fifth grade, she wanted to be an archaeologist
or an astronomer when she grew up. She studied the moon and stars and devoured library books on ancient civilizations. She took many detours along the way to becoming an author, writer and historian, one of which was becoming a yoga teacher when she was sixty.
Skye's been a middle school librarian, Florence Pioneer Museum curator, creator of the Penrose History Mini-Museum, and a substitute teacher. Her love of local history is evident in her service on the Fremont County Heritage Board, the Florence Pioneer Museum Board. She currently serves on the Florence Colorado Heritage Commission.
Skye graduated from Pueblo Community College - Fremont Campus in 2005, with two Associate Degrees: Associate of Arts - History and Associate's of Science - Library Tech.
She created and administers two local history Facebook groups, each with thousands of members: Florence Colorado History and Penrose Colorado History.
Skye is a lifetime member of the Fremont County Historical Society.
Forty years ago she was instrumental in establishing Penrose Community Library. She lovingly jokes that it's her tenth child!
Skye has edited and published the memoirs of senior women
and men, written numerous newspaper columns over the years, chaired the Penrose Centennial 1909 - 2009 Committee and created the Centennial history blog in 2009. She's produced and continues to present over a dozen educational historical programs on Fremont County, Colorado, forgotten women in history and other subjects.
She taught yoga for over ten years and continues to make it a beloved daily personal practice.
Teaching a variety of classes - local history, magic of writing, yoga, meaningful aging, writing memoir, family history, and forgotten women - for over fifteen ears at the annual Pueblo Community College - Fremont Campus Senior Mini-College, continues to be a highlight she looks forward to each year.
Skye's passion is to delve into the lives of forgotten women in history, teasing out their stories and bringing them to light. She believes we each need a connection to the past to bring balance and peace into our lives.
Writing about the past is Skye's small contribution to making her corner of the world a better place.
She's lived in the Rocky Mountains for over fifty years. Most of those years were spent in Fremont County Colorado raising her
nine children, who are now fabulous adults making their own small
corners of the world better places.

Skye's previous name was Sherry Johns.
In 2018 she changed her legal name and revised the covers of her book to reflect that change.
